In time, they say
But I think that it’s their time
They’re speaking of

It’s fine, I reply
But that’s just so
They’ll let me be

I’ve lied upon fevered bark
Flying the ribbon of our eternity
Watching the curve of us
Intertwine the trees
Coloring the breeze, baby blue
It kidnaps my lonely
And nestles me, secure with you

As they all declare

Don’t look back
Don’t look forward
Just stay still
To count your blessings
Don’t cry now
Don’t cry later
Wash it all away
Think not on your regret
But on who you’ve never met

Sometimes the heart thinks it has moved on
But it’s wrong
Oh, it’s wrong
It’s just occupied with something else

So if you find yourself alone
City lights, dying down
The memory of her, slinking under your door
You may rest, listening for nothing
And then hear a familiar something

It is only me

Reciting the riddle of your leaving
Breaking the fragments of you, smaller
As my unwillingness compromises to try

And so remembering how to breathe…

I sigh

As can I Amy – such a wistful, poignant and all too real work of art. Funny thing about hearts, I guess – we DO move on in most ways – but there’s room in hearts that have known much love for these memories and longings too. Just a touchingly beautiful piece!
