Apathy

Originally written on October 3, 2007 for an AllPoetry contest.

I was told by the person who ran the contest that this piece was too short to be considered a poem, I asked them if they’d ever read a haiku (though this is not one). There is more meaning in this three-lined piece than any 2 page poem submitted in that contest, it’s just between the lines.

The definition of Apathy is the lack of feeling, emotion, interest, or concern. In an apathetic state, is there enough human left to count?

Am I entitled to disappear?
Full of breath, short of feeling
The consequence of thought alone.
