I took this shot standing on my back steps in my yard in Amherst, Virginia, USA. I heard alot of noise outside and took a look out. I couldn’t believe it when I saw this helicopter right at the side of my tree line. There are power lines in between my land and my neighbors land and this helicopter was trimming all the trees on the sides of the lines with this huge saw with blades twirling all around on it. First it was up high, and then it would plunge down with the blades and trim the tree tops….then back up again. I was amazed. I must have taken 30 pictures while it was near. Then it flew off to trim the lines up in the back of my land and then all around my area. The branches were hitting the power lines and the power was blinking on and off half the day. lol I was just glad the power kept coming back on. :)) BEST VIEWED LARGE -Taken with my Canon Powershot SX110 IS

Nice shot Ginny. Welcome to the Aeronautics & Aviation Group. – Ted

  • Thanks so much Ted! I will have to put in a few more of the helicopter shots I got. I wanted to show the blade trimmer in this one, so the helicopter looks so small. :)) I don’t know how the helicopter can handle all that weight!

OMG! How on earth did he miss severing one of the power lines with that saw. Certainly unbelievable, but obviously a fact. Would’ve made a good U-tube video.

  • LOL I don’t know Elaine. I was worried….he was so close to me. There is only 20 feet on each side of the powerlines!! You could see the pilot sticking his head out of the window to see what he was doing!! He did knock out power to one of my neighbors 2 houses over. So glad it wasn’t me. I will have to put one of the zoomed in shots on. :))
    Thanks Elaine!!

GOSH Ginny, I’ve only ever seen this on the TV, our a film, I never knew it happened in real life,

This is a brilliant shot, has to be a fav

  • Wow! Thanks so much for the fav Malcolm. I knew they really did it in real life, because I know some guys who worked for the tree trimming companies…and they told me about it….but I never saw it happen in real life till they were out flying over my yard with that huge blade! It was a little scary….they were so close. I’m glad it stayed attached….and they stayed in the air. I have heard stories about them crashing before. Yikes. It was pretty amazing. I’m so glad you like this one. :))
