Artist's Description

This is a little bird that was alongside the backroad I take on my way home from town in Amherst, Virginia. It is called a Catbird. We stopped the truck and I zoomed in on it from the truck window. To my surprize…it stayed in the branches of the little tree it was in….just hopping from one to the other. Needless to say…I was thrilled and took as many shots as I could get. :)) I think maybe it thought we couldn’t see it, since it blended in so well. :)) So I whistled to it and it still stayed. lol My lucky day!

Catbird (from Wikipedia)

Several unrelated groups of songbirds are called catbirds because of their wailing calls, which resemble a cat’s meowing. The genus name Ailuroedus likewise is from the Greek for “cat-singer” or “cat-voiced”.
