Taken in my yard in Amherst, Virginia. It was a bit bright out. I’m not sure what type of bat this is…but at night they are flying around out here eating the bugs under the lights.

gee i thought bats where black.. this is so cool ginny. wow

  • Thanks Dee! I know some bats are black. This guy was a little more of a darker redish brown color on the head part…but it was so bright out that it looks a lighter color. I tried to darken it up in the PS, but it made the eye and the detail dissappear. lol The hairy underside was tan though.

Wow it looks like something from the film Predator…is Arnie in your back garden too??!!! Amazing shot Ginny!!

  • LOL I’m not sure who Arnie is…but he might just be out here! This guy is pretty creepy looking isn’t he? These guys fly right down to where my little deck is and grab moths from where my light is out there. Yikes! Thanks for the fun comments Shaun!!

Ew, it’s so ugly it’s cute! Amazing you could get such a shot Ginny. We get bats around here every couple years or so but they are usually rabid. Probably the Texas heat……….hahaha☺

  • Thanks Dyle! I hope it didn’t have rabies! It was out during the daylight and it couldn’t fly right. I just thought it might be wounded. The guy I live with put it out in the woods a ways off!!!
