Right at the back in the far right hand corner
I sit.
Alone
There are 51 other children in the room
One sitting next to me, on the aisle,
Usually occupied with the lesson, and ignores my disregard of my surroundings
Sometimes she may be a special friend though, and giggles with me.
Most of the time I have a book on my lap, nothing to do with the lessons, unless it’s History Art or English; I can now see the connection.
The other girls are mostly two years younger than I, and I feel somehow much brainier,
Perhaps not…….
I am usually alone and always feel left out. Once I hoped they would choose me for Captain or even Vice Captain, Vice Vice Captain would do!
But only the popular girls get chosen, I have no idea how to be popular.
Being extremely shy
So I mould myself into my books.
The teacher can’t see me,
I have a book on my lap………

Great poignancy in this Gini, well done.
Virginia McGowan replied
thanks Enivea , I am eternally grateful for your encouragement about me writing , not since I used to write silly parodies about my school buddies * have I been encouraged .always as now too, hidden, as ‘they’ say better late than never.* wish I still had them [parodies I mean ]

Virginia McGowan replied
thanks C.J. I suppose we can’t all be Captain! used to be irritating to me though, if you were clever at maths etc and super at sport! teachers used to love you, nothings changed .. sad, at least I loved my teachers they were really lovely in spite of me hiding! well you know what a good book is like! gotta finish it. Hope you are okay (()))

So well written, so many children have felt these feelings and the ones who are there now are still feeling them, me to.
Virginia McGowan replied
Thankyou Byron for reading this. I did have lots of fun! I still can’t see the point in bunsen burners ! Or maths!
jesika
This is a wonderful story, YOUR memory and mine too!
But I well remember my very first day at school, age 5. I couldn’t see any reason for going as I could already read, write & do sums….......! A total watse of time when I could be climbing trees & falling out of them LOL
Thanks for the memory.

Virginia McGowan replied
ooh Jesika! see some people like we are, have more fun and the others miss out.I can’t ever remember not knowing how to read and I could knit and sew at 4 some dropped stitches but ….eek sums! I still get muddled with a 5 and a 2 and a 3 and an 8 and in my time we did money long division was done in pounds shillings and pence ... when we did fractions and algebra, much easier.
DarKarsean

A very honest and illuminating account of your School years. Quite a bit different to my experience, except the wish to be popular enough to be School Captain but knowing it won’t happen.
Virginia McGowan
thanks for reading James…

Oh!!! the memories. I did not like school, they say they are the best years of your life, not mine. Great work!!!
