    Brings back memories :)
I think the original was made in the late 1960s, this is probably the longest lasting sign on the Gold Coast, pretty amazing when you consider that nearly every structure here is replaced about every 20 years!

  • Virginia McGowan replied

hahah more like 2 years! It used to be a joke in our house everytime we drove down the Highway I’d point to a hole in the ground and say “what used to be there” ?

I recently purchased this as a card for my in-laws. They have just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Their wedding nite was spent at the Pink Poodle Motel – apparently it was the place to stay 40 years ago!
They spent their anniversary nite at the site of the old Pink Poodle – there is a Mantra highrise there now but the old Pink Poodle sign still stands proud. The inlaws just loved your artwork. Thank you for making their anniversary that bit more special.

  • Virginia McGowan replied

aw thank you so much Nicola! I am so glad they enjoyed themselves. what a lovely idea ,
I did this when the ‘new pp’ was being launched, there was a competition held at Bond Uni to select a work I think,? maybe more paintings to be hung in the foyer?? I think there were 5 prizes altogether and several runner ups. Most were very abstract some entries were funny [not the winners] I thought they would want a represented work , so I painted this I really can’t do abstract anyway.
we came here to live in 1967 so to me it’s something that’s always been there.
I bet they adore the baby! gorgeous .
