Katatjuta #1

Virginia McGowan

Katatjuta #1

Oil Painting on canvas on board .I painted this [ super magical place] along with several others after I came back from a driving trip to the Centre 7 years ago , I mostly did small watercolour sketches. and a few small;; acrylics on the spot. I did a lot of large one when i came home but they have been stored away until recently.
I was very ill, and also going through a personal trauma [and drama] as well as the loss of my lifestyle and income and could only mange to function for 3 hours a day , so I guess chucking paint around as I call it helped to heal.

  • Virginia McGowan replied

thanks very much I did this rather soft there were a lot of grass fires around so the air was very soft and heavy with smoke[they burn off all the time out there or I guess for summer..,]

thanks Byron I did another close up very very red but that’s how it is , I couldn’t do any walking but would have loved to explore around the walking tracksI didn’t have much of a camera then hope to go back asap but needs to be in winter apart from heat the flies can drive you up the wall .

Absolutely stunning Ginny!Fabulous colour and composition. I would recognize this place anywhere. The brilliance of the colour and the mystery surrounding these huge outcrops have to be seen to be truly appreciated.Brilliant!

  • Virginia McGowan replied

isn’t it just magnificent! I just wish I could pop out there anytime, I painted a few of the sunset as it was just red sky and the whole length ot Katatjuta but the larger one got so much flack I painted over it. no-one will believe the colours! one of my customers said rudely..huh it’s a bit red!! I did this one more softly as it was very smokey , a three day pass is not enough… but we were there end of September and it was much too hot, and the dusty winds had started.Did you take any photos? I only had a small film camera.

Looking at this painting, I could never guess what was happening with you. Your art transcends it all. Truly, you are an inspiration. ♥

  • Virginia McGowan replied

Thanks so much , actually dragging the art out I just can’t believe how many I painted!! [I have piles of paper works] and I was still working 7 days and some nights to get things done . I did do this though after I was ‘made’ to give up. I am a very fast worker too . and I don’t think I did much dusting LOL

And a lovely job of chucking paint it is, too!!!
Every time we squeeze through something terrible, it seems our art gets better as our heart and spirit grow tougher. At least, that’s my experience.
Thanks for sharing this work, it’s awesome, and just warms up my soul!

  • Virginia McGowan replied 21 days ago

ooh Dayonda such beautiful thoughts.. sometimes I think people don’t appreciate feeling and being 100% they really waste their lives, and mostly have no care about others.[just by gripe for today LOL] will get over it!! ..;-))))

this image here show no illness that you made have. Instead to me feels so calming and concent with the world of beauty as is this image. awesome.

  • Virginia McGowan replied 21 days ago

thanks Therese illness I think really makes a person slow down and do more important things.i actually took a few art works to a gallery to try and exhibit and the owner asked me was I ill she said she could see little glitches.Well one thing I used to do was not finish things off including sentences but I though she was very perceptive… [not this one a few others] I still stuggle to write anything here on Redbubble take hours sometimes .. cheers Gini appreciate letting me rabbit on
