thanks Caroline, oh I love thes gums! mine is painted over two or three other works I didn/t like and I used loads of smooth Gel Medium to sort of sculpture the paint. the background is thick greens and cut into with the end of the brush, does’t show up so much here.
I like yours ! everybody is different . I hate it when I go to upload something and find somebody has similar.

  • Virginia McGowan replied

thanks I painted over another pic I didn’t like [have no idea now what is was] and the paint is plasted on really thick, the backround is actually all dark green and the she-oak leaves are scratched in. I did the scribbles the same with the end of the brush then painted inside.

Fraser Island is simply amazing … and so is your painting!

  • Virginia McGowan replied

thanks Poupoune Ifor the nice comment on the tree I actually hated it! [Fraser ]got chased by march flies [ouch] and almost got run down all the time by the big 4×4 buses as there are only one way tracks .[had to keep alert and get off the track which was almost impossible . very hot and sticky, tent was too small….. then a dash to get back to the ferry before the tide came in and swept up off into the ocean!!

This looks great Gini! I love scribbly gums and you’ve done a great job I thought it was a photo from the thumbnail!

  • Virginia McGowan replied

thanks Kristi I put a lot of paint on this sort of sculptured and scratched the foliage in with the end of the brush..

Yes, the surfaces of some australian trees are works of art in themselves. I really like the texture in the paintwork and the scribbly lines tell us what tree it is. Really nice soft purples, apricots and ochre tones in the bark.

  • Virginia McGowan replied

I wished I’d taken a good photo of this it was very interesting but i did a quick sketch and took a very ordinary photo but I am not about to go back and find it again! The march flies drove me nuts… they love me!
