Ginny thanks for your recent comment. I have come back to look at your work again, and contemplate how you do it, this is lovely. I really could do with some tips, is it light over dark… dark over light, oh god! Anyway, your pastel paintings are lovely… I know I have commented on lots of them in the past, still feel the same. x c

hi Carmen re Pastel technique. I had to start one to find out….hmm still not really sure!
I muddle through mainly! anyway.
well I start with vague drawing in a paler pastel then sort of do both dark and light bit here bit there,I do the foreground first, sort of work it up, I usually rub in the pastel a lot with my finger, I don’t worry about the mess or keeping it ‘clean’ as it works out in the end. I love the rough paper, but it’s a bit small though [can’t think what it’s called at the moment] but I prefer the size of “canson’ etc full sheet size.I always do the sky last blend in lots and I spray all the time,I scratch my nose a lot! not b’cos of the spray, but it sort of helps to think what to do…alway have paint on my nose so I must !
I guess I just build up light and darks,as I go then do really light over to highlight.
I am not one of those fussy people .with rules..arhgg
I usually try to use the colour paper of the scene or whatever too.I love the dark papers the best though and I used a rusty red for the grass one. I did one in black paper recently.great to work on too, I think it is in a frame, too small a pic to put up. although maybe I could do a thumbnail
love your free funny works. I am puddling atm not sure what to do next. in the middle of some oils that went wrong easier to do photos .!

I miss the colours of Central Australia. I lived in Alice for a long time. You have captured the essence of our country’s Red Heart beautifully

Ronald Rockman
Ginny you sure captured the scene, I love being at Kata Juta what an amazing place to be especially walking around there on a 45 degree day.
Cheers,

well I just love the heat! hate the flies ! so funny re our visit no-one told us about it being a national park and we thought you just rolled up and parked anywhere we [slept in the car] was devastated to find we had to go back to the camp grounds! I did a lot of paintings on site but the grass here is just behind the viewing platform at Kata Tjuta . loved it more than the rock, I took a slide film and it didn’t roll on properly so no pics! a couple of simple film ones no zoom
