Wow Gini! This is just stunning! Haven’t been there yet! Must do one day! x :o)

  • Virginia McGowan replied

oh Marilyn it’s wonderful , we went from Kings Canyon through the Merrinee Loop [permit required] to Hemannsburg, we were lucky people we met there were so helpful very casual and you can buy art works direct, although still very expensive, it may have changed now , this was 2002 .Merinee Loop is an adventure on it’s own, disaster driving if not careful! dips in the road are like canyons.
I only had a ordinary camera so pics aren’t good,[oh ‘Alberts Car ‘turned out okay]

Lovely work ginny, nice that your sketches make it to such a great finished painting :) ~ Anni

  • Virginia McGowan replied

thanks Anni I usually use an artline pen in a small book and sketch as we are driving, not easy sometime to stop in the middle of the road and by te time there is a parking spot it’s miles from where I see something good.

I think this is my favourite landscape painting of yours, apart from a few with a Lighthouse / beach scene [ Byron Bay ? ]. You’ve depicted a lot of detail throughout the scene, but it’s got a bit of an impressionist style the way the paint was applied. Great stuff ! :))

  • Virginia McGowan replied

gosh and I wasn’t going to do anything with it! it looks sort of just loose to me ? I didn’t think I put much detail I added the rocks recently, in real life the trees along the banks were those lots of ghost gums Albert Namitjira painted , I have a cupboard full of watercolour works never seen life out side and a few framed too , apart from hundreds of oils etc.at least I don’t have to rely on sales to live!

Beautiful transparent watercolour, Ginny. Love your palette here and the lovely feeling of serenity you have created.

  • Virginia McGowan replied

oh many thanks Bev I love your soft w/coulrs so fantastic comliment watercolours usually turn out soft for me. I have trouble selecting which paper to use, it’s not easy to buy atm as everbody has let stocks go down and so many art shops are closing.I have to take what I can get.
