Oooh, this is gorgeous. Makes me want to jump into that cool blue water:)

  • Virginia McGowan replied

Thanks Robin not sure if you can swim in it? there’s one that’s called The Green Pool too. I think it must have something to do with the minerals??

  • shanghaiwu

    shanghaiwu

    oh ginnymac

    your work so cool
    your work so different

    LOVE IT LOVE IT

  • Virginia McGowan replied

thanks shanghaiwu, re different I tend to paint a bit like a couple of people I admire! I try hard to get away from their style.

  • JayVee

    JayVee

Great work. Love the blue. Do you sit at the spot or is it from a picture. Love Yamba. Surfing there is great.

  • Virginia McGowan replied

Hi JayVee I did both,or 3 things, a sketch, and I couldn’t see the ocean properly so I sort of put that bit in [you can see if you stand on the hill [ bank] in the foreground, to the right [can’t see here! ]I couldn’t climb so I had to remember that bit,! It looked a beter comp.

I took two pics hoizontal stitched them and used them for references.

I always get lost if I work from just from photos! too much missing or too many things in the way.I like to alter the landscape to suit.

  • Murray Swift

    Murray Swift

Wow… whenever I attempted to paint water it has been a disaster, you seem to have mastered it.

  • Virginia McGowan replied

thanks Murray , I hadn’t thought I’d mastered it! thanks,
I think, look into it and paint what you see. I don’t like exact work though. Horizon line is important, water is always level. [I have a fusspot critic here that waves a ruler aound] the next trick is to make sure the photo is straight! This is framed so I can’t get a larger pic for here for a framed version for the moment, unless I take it out [underglass] and it’s always messy taking out pastels.

This is lovely Ginny. As a kid we would visit Angourie and be the only ones there. We called it the Bottomless Pool. Went back recently and it was totally different and much larger than my childhood memories.

  • Virginia McGowan replied

oh that’s interesting Lyn. usually things look smaller when you grow up. It’s the first time I have seen it, do you know why it’s so blue? Did you swim in it? I wished I had more time to sit and paint, I hate doing things from photos. Not sure why, but I always get muddled.
I hope to get back one day!
