This figurehead reminded me a bit of Mary Poppins. Her garb just needed an umbrella instead in her hands it looks like a riding crop. Perhaps it was to keep the sea at bay and protect those under her watchful eye.
I so love the sea and tall ships and piratey things – arrrrrrrrr! This is a beautiful photo. Difficult to capture and you did it so well! Thanks for the kind comment you left on my kangaroo photo :O)

figureheads have changed throughout history to the point they are no longer on modern ships… they were seen as protection as far back as the ancient Chinese and Phoenicians

typically, figureheads are sirens, half naked, or the guiding feminine intuition to look out beyond the ship to what might be over the horizon
