December

In the richness of a forgotten summer
Still with the nothingness to pass the time until evening
When the crickets would sing outside windows
To deliver by telegram a lissom circumstance
Per chance to say
Hi, how are you…how was your day?
Why don’t you come by and tell me about it
Clothing optional
Over the years we’ve grown in ways undetected by the other
Within lives of gathered momentum
Entangled assumptions runneth over
And spill into the morass of the in between
Remote echoes beg acknowledgment
To stave off a lingering lust
Do what you must
Just promise me another time of nothingness
To touch and to taste and remember
Be it a distant December, years away
Faithful the embers, to ache in the maddening peace
And contentment until it wears off
Forfeiting the price, to forget and suffice
Upon an ancient yet precise, come hither
To whither feed the hunger while splinter dwells
Each passage compelled to
Commiserate in the mutual affections
Undone by the haziest of recollections
In which I feel your skin on mine…and the promise for the taking
In the briefest of fleeting moments
Escaping through the canopy of that warm breeze
Carried away past a midnight hour
It was so easy then and yet when to begin…
Until I see you again

December is wonderful….I was swept along with this.
Your poem reminds me of the Ellen Burstyn, Alan Alda movie," Same time next year"
(which I love, hope you do not mind my comparison)…a beautifully articulated piece, full of oh yeah sighs !! x
    Sandra…

  • OMG!!!! Not only do I not mind, that is exactly the movie that it reminded me of as well!!! One of my all-time favorite movies. Thank you!
