“I’m learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes”

Life past exile
South of 8 Mile
It’s been a long while
Yet, from time to time
I can’t help but find
And so, again and again
I make my way back towards assurance
Logic remains
As well as the many reasons why
Holding fast to the copious and vast
Silver linings
Which comprise my life today
Trusting the way I was whisked away
To the safest of places
Former towards familiar, complimentary basis
One in the same
Another storied sanctuary
Restorative of my foothold
In a balance all my own
As cautious first steps grew into an independent stance
And those things I’d come to understand
I had to learn again
My steadiness at the ready
When my heart’s desire sent for me
Each detail and dream taken care of
My ticket punched and paid for
And still…
As loose ends tie the peripheral
And synchronize to all that is
So abrupt was the exodus created for me
Grand as it was
And continues to be
Left in its wake a few relics
Which over time have washed ashore
Vestiges of things left unsaid in the tree house
Logic and reason in a steady backbeat
Doing battle with denial occasionally
As they set aside the dealing
Compartmentalized each feeling
And barricaded the plea
To read…
Rationale for Sale
Caveat veiled tiger and tail
Ominous hammer innocent nail
Buyer beware
Again and again
Its relevance known
Its only impose
One small blow to a sturdy ego
No loss
No cost
Too exhaustive to illustrate
And it doesn’t matter anyway
Because the dominate
Can no longer wait
Amnesty on the table
The highest bid being forgiveness
I simply have to forgive you
That’s all I have to do
For not loving me the same way
Because, in truth, I always knew
Your way was so much wiser to the moment
And mine necessary to remind my soul
As I came back to life on the second floor
So it comes down to ego
Its simplicity lost in my ability to complicate
And subjugate
Getting there
I think I will miss the way I felt about you
So as I return the relics to the sea
And wish the best for you
I will continue to
Enjoy the view
Gorgeous and blue, while I
Wrap myself tightly
In the platinum settings and silver linings
…and trust the passage of time

“I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it’s about forgiveness
Even if, you don’t love me anymore”…

-Don Henley

It took me a while to warm up to this one. I kept referring to it as a “work in process” – but, it says everything I wanted and needed to say at the time…and, it still rings true from the other side.

Inspired by Don Henley’s “The Heart of the Matter” – which, in my opinion, is one of the most perfect poems evah…G2

Wow, wow, and wow! This is a stunning write, so much raw emotion. Moreover, you have made contact with the very humanity of the human—in my humble point of view: forgiveness. This is a superlative write. xo, Rusty

Gini, It is clear that you need no one for inspiration. While, I have not commented on all that I have read; your soul contains all of the inspiration it requires. Although, I do thank you for the compliment. Moreover, what makes this piece so transcendentally beautiful is precisely its vulnerability and the exposure that you are willing to share with us. Indeed, “exposure” is exactly the word that came into my mind when I read it, which has led me to begin a piece of that same title. I cannot wait to read more, as I am now watching you: oh, no! If I can pull it off, “Exposure” will be dedicated to you. xo, Rusty

It is ironic that I comment after Kathleen on this poem. It touched me so deeply. As I visit the profiles of those who commented on her (Kat’s) work, I must say that in everything I’ve read that has affected me, this piece has reached my core. It’s also ironic that the song has been bouncing around my head this weekend. Not by accident I’m sure.

Powerful writing it is so important to learn how to forgive or we ourselves cannot heal but it is not an easy thing to do.
