A tribute to the artwork of JW Waterhouse who I greatly admire.
I wanted to re-create one of my personal favorites using an entirely different medium.
In this artwork I used over 50 photographic elements combined with digital painting to create a work with the same theme, colour pallete and general composition as Waterhouse’s original work ‘Hylas & the Nymphs’.
You may notice there are small changes in the position of each model & if you have a look at the closeups of this work, you’ll see some of the fine detail that was worked into every inch of the digital canvas.
You can see the detail images and a timelapse video of how this work was created on my website
This was certainly an epic undertaking with almost all of the photographic elements being photographed by myself. The female models are in fact all the same person with the facial features being painted over to achieve the right ‘look’. Alot of work but so much fun!
