Gili- that is so stunning! It grips the heart and wouldnt let go… The whole drawing and the details can attest – your skills are so impressive, each dot, each line in its right place. But what captivates me is the content – a whole life story in one image.
What I see in it is interactions of the central character, the ‘me’, with past present and future versions of itself. From an innocent baby, umbilical cord still attached, to a long dead person in his grave, through a set of ‘judging’ selves, one mocking, one blind one ignoring with his eyes closed…No wonder the central ‘me’ doesnt really have a body, so hard to know what the real identity of oneself is…
It is a great piece of art, and a great translation and enhancement of my basis image – instead of a limited period of life being seen as a siege, you present the whole life as a siege…
Thanks for doing this, it was very rewarding for me.

  • I am very happy with your feedback, Pnina, may say – honored and humbled, since I am not sure I deserve such praise, but I drink it like elixir of life, nonetheless. You gave me a great gift by inviting me to do the translation of your work – I wouldn’t have asked to do it, I felt that the workshops of Sojie were beyond me, at my emotional state, but I was gently pulled into it and it filled me with new life and hope – THANKS!!

Gili, your fantastic drawing has brought to relief the inner struggles of life as a sentient being – aware, yet always questioning, reflective, yet transformed by those reflections, either advanced or crippled, in turn, by thoughts of oneself within the confines of time, or spans of time, as one has known it. The work has all the “Gili magic” and yet connects directly to ArtPearl’s piece. Congratulations to you and ArtPearl!

  • So beautifully said, Frannie! and so good to read, feel both flattered and understood… Thanks!!

I am agreeing with all of the above…..I really think you did more than one could imagine in this piece. I love that the heads are like floating balloons……all so surreal. But yet there is introspective to see. You did a wonderful job Gilli, so glad to see this translation!! So cool!!

  • Thanks sooo much, ELizabeth!!

Gili, such a story is such a few strokes of a pencil.
I AM STILL LOOKING AT ALL THE DETAILS :)
I like the tiny details like the umbilical cord being represented in the first instance with a hanging leaf. I see it as a journey that presents itself as it always has through all paths of our evolution. we may travel through life and many choices and events will occur and as you portray your last entity, a confused skeleton, questioning what has really happened.
It would have been nice to introduce maybe another balloon, ( between 1st and 3rd in the forefront) this could have represented the all questionable question) afterlife? Heaven? ….

Great work, one that certainly makes you ponder.

  • Elisabeth, you opened my eyes to something I haven’t realized before – the leaf is the reflection of the umbilical cord… You know, things just pop up and I just let them appear and help them materialize, that’s all I do… Thanks for this point! Thanks for your all interesting feedbacks, actually.
About a 4th balloon dealing with afterlife… well, it just didn’t appear… I don’t force anything, or try not to. It may have not appeared because my drawing was already too crowded, or because I am not convinced about afterlife and don’t anticipate it, not in the good sense, anyway, of a wonderful heaven. And anyway, it can also be presented a question by my pondering/confused skeleton, like: What next? or: should I TELL you what is next?!
