Ok – so I have ventured into a realm unknown to me till now. I have decided to do a three-in-one routine development thing. So I am working on losing weight, updating my blog at www.gideonvanzyl.co.za on a daily basis, and taking one self-portratit a day till I reach my ideal weight (probably sometime in about 13 weeks, if I am a good boy.

Today’s effort is included. I am trying different techniques every day, so day three is a shot taken with my Canon EOS 5 D MkII and an old Speedlite 220 that I don’t use that much stuck behind a strobist kit softbox.

Criticism in this case would be appreciated, since I am pretty new to the whole self-portait thing.

About Gideon van Zyl

I started on a little Kodak Instamatic camera when I was quite small and eventually started with SLR photography on my Dad’s old Pentax Spotmatic in the late ’70s.

Photographers like Yousuf Karsch, Annie Leibowitz who have grown up in the age of film and have captured the world inspire me, whereas modern digital photographers and techniques challenge me to always renew what I am doing and how I am looking at things.
