Bushwar Veteran - Mirage III CZ by

One of the brace of Mirage III CZ fighters flown by Maj Bob Crinall of South Afgrican 2 Sq (Cheetah Squadron)during the Bush War in Northern Namibia and Angola during the ’80’s in a ground attack role. Each pilot had a pair of planes to use during operations to ensure operational continuity.

26 of the original 58 Mirage III CZs delivered to the South Afrcan Airforce were converted to Cheetah C specification fighters and served with 2nd Sq till 2008 when the first delivery of SAAB JAS 39 Grippen started taking place.

The photo was taken at the South African National Mititary Museum where she is on static display.

About Gideon van Zyl

I started on a little Kodak Instamatic camera when I was quite small and eventually started with SLR photography on my Dad’s old Pentax Spotmatic in the late ’70s.

Photographers like Yousuf Karsch, Annie Leibowitz who have grown up in the age of film and have captured the world inspire me, whereas modern digital photographers and techniques challenge me to always renew what I am doing and how I am looking at things.
