Locked Up in Layers

do you know how beautiful id be
if i could just ignore this pain
be grateful for these tangled roots
buried deep beneath the soil
dirty enough to taint my heart
yet nourishing—pushing me upward to bud

hazy to most but God clearly sees potential
while i resist, he washes me in merciful dew each day
rays of light shining as i peak from a fruit-filled carpel
“Good morning,” He says…never giving up on me
He made me and knows how beautiful id be

now it’s up to me
He shines His Light allowing me to bask
instead, i continuously replay the pains of my past
shame shades the nourishment He freely gives
my very own roots intertwine
cutting off my Living Water supply
but oh, how beautiful id be!

i want so badly for them to see
still, pedals of pink hide for protection
not knowing who truly appreciates beauty
a premature bloom can quickly wilt
and just how sad would that be

one day ill be a summer’s blossom
sweet sways of praise in the warm breeze
cotton-candy kisses toward the sky…Hallelujah!
my floral aroma, a pleasing fragrance in the forest
this often-overlooked fuchsia
will soon be a part of bouquet you desire

until then i stand guarded,
dreading the moment i must bloom
but oh, how beautiful id be…
