Matilda

Now in the Sonate. Calendar

This is the first in the series “Ghosts of Music”

Matilda was born and lived on the remote Island of North Rona. Her mother died in childbirth. Her father was a poor and humble man, and he worked hard to support his beautiful daughter.

But one night he had a dream about a nectarine tree which grew in Greenland. He became obsessed with the idea of farming these trees on his island, and was sure that in this way his fortune would be made.

One morning Matilda woke to find her father gone – on the kitchen table was a note which told her what she had feared….he had gone to Greenland to seek the fruit tree of fortune from his dreams.

She was but 14 years old, living three hours by foot from the nearest coastal village. It is said that she spent every waking hour playing the piano, hoping that her father would return…..but he was never seen again. She died, presumably of starvation, on a date unknown. It is said that she plays the piano still in the remote cottage on this remote Isle.

This attempts to be a Fine Old Fashioned Collage in the tradition of articulation whom we greatly admire

Is that a “peach” I see before me??

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

no I’m sure it is a nectarine!

Phew! I thought we were going to be in trouble with the PPL for a moment there…...

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

The nectarine has been poached in raspberry juice (a touch of 100% organic pomegranate too of course) brown sugar and cognac (with a cinnamon stick). Delicious with my vanilla yoghurt ice cream

I looooove nectarines. There used to be a wonderful one at my parents’ home that grew from a pip my grandmother threw out of her kitchen window. Summer days under that tree eating fresh, sweet fruit. wonderful.

(Georgiana, is this a true story? Very sad either way).

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

pppfffttt! did collage….wrote fiction (pretty good for me, always thought I couldn’t make up a story) I’m very flattered that you even considered that it might be fact

It’s a wonderful story.l Do nectarines come from Greenland? Doesn’t matter I suppose, perhaps even more tragic if they don’t.

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

I doubt it! my fiction again…and there is something wrong in the picture for a clever person to find!

I feel it has to be something to do with the sheet music, perhaps the date of the piece, but I don’t recognise it; perhaps it is not piano music???

  • Anne van Alkemade

    Anne van AlkemadeWordsmith

Is piano music often 2/4 time?

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

clever thinking but no it is piano music

was there such a thing as an ice cream scoop in the early 1800s?

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

the date is uncertain, and they aren’t ice-cream scoops, they are butter pat moulders, Matilda and her father had a small heard of dairy cows and every Monday they would make the long journey on foot to the coastal village to provide the Manor House with fresh butter pats

Ah, please excuse my ignorance. I cannot see the fault therefore I concede the title of ‘clever person’.

you have tried so very hard. It may come to you in your sleep!

I love Matilda : she so resembles Mozart.

I can never find the “hidden thing ” in those puzzles… will just enjoy!
    A “Series” -? how fun!

Um, why are there Roman numerals in the map and are they time zones?

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

    mmargot…you are close…

I love the colors in your collage. Gives it a nice feel. I also find it quite entertaining every time you manage to work pomegranates into a conversation.

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

what is a conversation without a pomegranate? (or a pair of scissors for that matter) I wasn’t sure I could do this scissora thing but once I got going…FUN!!! It’s even keeping me away from photoshop!

It does say Denmark up there in Greenland…but I sure think Matilda looks like Mozart! I am a terrible critic and totally non-detail person! I know that I like it, though.

A very nice collage but I’ve also enjoyed the discussions that it’s generated.
Surely nectarines come from warmer climates?

  • Georgiana (by ... replied

Inbuilt here are many “facts” which may be disputed!
