Urquhart Castle Loch Ness by

The impressive ruin of Urquhart Castle sits on a rocky promontory with commanding views along Loch Ness. One of the largest of all Scottish castles, Urquhart has seen many battles and sieges throughout its 500-year history as a medieval fortress. Evidence of the siting of some kind of fortified residence on the promontory goes back to Pictish times during a missionary visit by St Columba about AD 580. The holy man called at the home in Glen Urquhart of an elderly noble Pict named Emchath and converted him and his household to Christianity.

A big thank you to Adgray for this inspired wonderful poem…..

_Can you hear the pipes a calling to you laddy
Will ye come and join the fighting of the foe
Hug the wee barings and kiss your lovely wife laddy
‘twill be a while before you march back home

And the lands will thank you for the blood you shed laddy
and the sassenachs will flee before our might
We will take you home upon the cart to bed laddy
and our land stay safe because you did what’s right_

Couldnt help it this shot brought out the poet in me, and the Scott [my grandfather is a Wallace decendant] But did ye no see the monster? On such a day as that she should have come to see you…. did you stay till dusk?
It is an awesome shot Gerry you have the length of the loch all brooding and the clouds gathering for the fight and the green hills calmly waiting. no wonder it drew poetry from me.
    Awesome Thank you. :o)

  • Thank you so much Alyssa for this, love it! Hope you don’t mind but I added it to the description of the image……

It was adgrays poem that brought me here, these collaborations are just great. We get to see more art this way. Love your picture, and it is nice to read something about the history too. The poem fits well, shows me a scenery in my mind.
