The Falkirk Wheel in Falkirk, Scotland is a remarkable feat of engineering. It performs the function usually filled by a series of locks of enabling a boat to move between bodies of water of unequal heights. A boat in transit move into a water filled chamber which raises the boat to the level of the higher body of water by raising the chamber in which it is sitting through rotation of the “wheel”. (It’s much easier to see and experience than it is for a non techie like me to explain.) Shot with my Nikon D7000.
