Although this image is a little “rough around the edges”, It’s still pretty unusual. I took this in the darkness, during a thunderstorm along side a road at 5:30 in the morning. While I was driving I noticed a strange, large, stationary arc shape out of the corner of my eye through my drivers side window. It would appear and then dissapear as the moon would shine between the storm clouds on the opposite side of the road. I thought about it and then realized, it could be a “Moonbow”. I stopped the car to verify what I was seeing. I rolled down the window and in the rain, there it was. My camera and lens are not waterproof and the side of the road was muddy so the tripod was not an option. I set up my camera, braced for the shot and hand held this 30 sec. exposure through the open side window. I lucked out with the lightening strike and red streaks from 2 passing cars. The yellow glow towards the bottom of the clouds and the blue light in the lower left of the sky are the lights of Las Vegas and the morning sunrise beginning to creep up and over the Spring mountains in the distance.
