Jienn started a really good chat a while ago about what sells?
Then I posted my reply and then decided that after reading Anne’s post, remembered I hadn’t written in my journal for a while. So here I am… not trying to take away from Jienn’s journal, but compliment it. And Khylan’s as well. Khylan was talking about a leaflet drop… and between them they got me thinking (as does everything else here in RedBubble).
I think I was extemely lucky to sell 2 cat tshirts in the short space of time that I did (within 2 weeks of joining RB) but I haven’t sold anything else since. If it was a shop front on a street I would be mortified and would be panicking that my advertising wasn’t working.
But then… I’m not advertising. Just telling friends and family all about RedBubble and how fab it is. But they’re not in the market for buying things…
So… more thinking…
I might do a letterdrop too. Thanks Khylan, I hadn’t thought of advertising with flyers! Great idea! I could get my son to help me drop them all off around various streets! Maybe his school will even let me put a couple of flyers in the front office? You never know until you ask!
I’m also thinking of creating a site at Cafepress and DeviantArt as well, and the guys at Tafe swear by the MySpace site (of course all they do is chat and stuff but still… it’d be advertising in a way.). But I just don’t know about MySpace… It doesn’t feel right to me… every time I’ve been there (only once or twice) it looks uninviting and sorry to say, dodgy looking.
Someone, I think it was ThickBlackOutline, mentioned Flickr too, but I’m not sure about that one either. It doesn’t really say what its for except to show photos, but then I read somewhere that you can’t put that it can be bought somewhere else. Maybe I read it wrong.
Doing the multimedia diploma at Tafe is helping understand the web world a bit better and hopefully by the end of July my website assignment will be uploaded into their site at designandmedia.com.au… I’m hoping (planning!) I can actually create something worthwhile looking at!!! It’s one thing to have it pretty on paper, but to create it in html is something else. Hopefully at the very least, the lecturers will discover RB!
And by the way, team of RedBubble, thanks for the gifs and putting my pics on the home page!
Must go now… I can hear stomachs growling from across the room!
