Looking down on Jindalee beach by

The edge here is quite steep and access is only by way of a long flight of steps. But the rewards for doing this are there for all to see. Jindalee is one of Perth’s north metropolitan suburbs beautifully sited on the shores of the Indian Ocean. I took this photo about lunchtime on Thursday 31st January – not the best time of day for taking photos I know but well, I was there and the scene was there in front of me, so I took it! I had my new Sony A77 in RAW mode with a 16-80 Carl Zeiss lens on aperture priority. I had forgotten to screw a filter on but don’t think the shot suffered too much without one.

You’ve done very well with this shot Peter. It might have been midday but it is a great picture.

  • Very many thanks John. I took this on the combined RAW/JPEG setting so was able to compare the two closely.. This is the RAW version somewhat scaled down – in fact I took a screen print so’s I could open it in CS3 and thus get it in RB.

What incredible colours, Peter! Very well done indeed.

  • Thanks David. In fact the colours are true to life – the light out here is almost always very intense, which is why I usually attach an nd filter to the lens, but this time there was no filter so it’s pretty much WYSIWYG.

Lovely place for a break while your having a walk, I could sit there for hours and enjoy the view :o)

  • Very many thanks Els and how good it is to see you again.. It’s a fairly new suburb and it’s only about a year since they opened the beach up so that everyone could get to it.
    Take care

This beach is the best place, I could happily sit there watching the waves and the world roll by.

Love the colour of the sea.

  • Many thanks old friend and I wonder how many people do just what you said and sit there while the world passes them by!
    All the best

Terrific Peter – the RAW is certainly working for you, brings out all the detail !

  • Hi Roy. The RAW certainly does bring out a lot of detail, plus my new Sony is 24 mps, so when you add both of those ingredients to the pot they brew up a great result. Very many thanks for such a warm comment.
