The magic of Arnhem Land - a tree and a rock by

The popular conception of Australia’s outback is dirt roads, red desert, dust and kangaroos. This view, though, gives another perspective to that idea and is typical of the REAL outback – land on which our Aborinines have lived and roamed for over 40,000 years. We are in the Borrodaile region of western Arnhem Land where we spent 3 nights at Davidson’s Arnhem Land Safaris – an up market, and very expensive, destination that is worth every single solitary cent. We were taken on tours galore, both of creeks, bilabongs etc and also of ancient caves and rocky landscapes where we saw rock art that dated back over 10,000 years.

I’m far too polite to ask you which is which, Peter! LOL That’s a super picture!

  • What’s this? David being polite? The times they are a’changing! LOL But you softened it with your final words, for which very many thanks!!

Wonderful shot of this amazing rock formation Peter ! That’s some trip you had.

  • Very many thanks Roy. You’re right and I certainly won’t be forgetting it in a hurry. I’m off again next Sunday – flying to Broome and coming back down to Perth by coach- a 12 day trip.

Great scenery, so dramatic and rugged! Beautiful photo Peter :) Would love to visit someday- that looks like an incredible safari! Now I HAVE to go to Big Bend in Texas- looks so much like the outback! hugs- Cathy

  • Thanks very much Cathy. It’s not an easy area to get into – our access was gained by fording the East Alligator River, after which it is all dirt roads so it’s 4WD only. Plus you have to have permits galore and some of the “roads” only allow 24 vehichles at any one time. But the rewards for overcoming all of this are stupendous scenery and gorgeous weather (providing you go during the dry season) And yoiu have to be prepared for no papers, no phones, no broadband, no radio, no TV, no people and no traffic!
    Take care
    Hugs
    Peter
