I must be getting older quicker than I realised because I swear to you all that I DID NOT KNOW THE BEACH I WAS ABOUT TO BLITHELY WALK ON TO, WITH CAMERA SNAPPING MERRILY AWAY, WAS A NUDIST BEACH!!! And to compound things I was innocently walking around for over 20 minutes taking photos galore before the realisation slowly dawned on me that there was something different about the scene! I tried frantically to hide my camera – not easy when all you are wearing is shorts and a T shirt! To make matters worse I was by now at the far end of the beach and had to assume a disinterested expression and, whistling tunelessly, stroll nonchalantly back to the other end and the comparative safety of the long flight of steps back to the car. Believe me, I was away from that place as fast as I could go, fully expecting to see a squad of police vehicles hurtling down the road with sirens blaring! No wonder my blood pressure and pulse rate was high that evening!
But I still don’t know why it is called Fisherman’s Beach!
Don’t tell anyone I have told you, but it is across the other side of King George Sound from Albany in the far south west of Western Australia some 450 kms from Perth – and that’s all I’m saying on the subject!
Camera, by the way, was my Sony alpha 55V, 11-18 lens with nd8 filter, aperture priority, held in what was at that stage a very steady hand!
albany, southern ocean, king george sound, western australia, fishermans beach, beaches, coast, rocks

Love the story as well as the photograph Peter and of course, “Honest”, I believe you mate, very well framed between those trees and it certainly looks too beautiful for nudists alone,
Regards, Rod.
Hi Rod and wonderful to see you again old mate. Been a while and I was on the verge of getting worried about you. So VERY many thanks for the visit and the generous appraisal – all music to my ears. I was just about at the end of a week’s R&R which was very much needed after the traumas of the past 6 months or so. You would know how good it felt to get out and about again and wander around one’s favourite places with camera at the ready and I really was invigorated at the end of it all. Now I have two weeks in Tasmania to look forward to – coming up in early April – and that is followed in early June by a week in the mysterious Arnhem Land, which is sacred Aboriginal territory visited by very few white people. It is to be fully escorted with all the necessary passes and permits included in the coach fare and highly trained guides to show us around. It promises to be one of life’s highlights and the area makes for interesting reading in Google.
I keep saying I’ll give you a call and one day I’ll surprise you again!
All the best to you both and I hope you have been wintering well so far.
Peter

hahahahahaha!!! I have just related the story to my hubby, with laughter!!! Oh Peter, you don’t ’arf get yourself into scrapes, but I tell you it made my day!! Hope all is progressing with you and good to read your humour!
Now for image; I am about to view larger just in case I can spot a nudist!! LOLLL
Hi Angie – good to see you and very many thanks for such a delightful comment. It’s always a treat to hear from you. It’s funny about that Fisherman’s Beach because over the last 40 years I had driven past the road sign goodness knows how many times, always telling myself that one day I would take the detour but never quite getting round to it. On this occasion I guess I had too much time on my hands!
Touch wood everything is going well and I have a two day burst of chemo every other Wednesday, seeing the doc the following Fridays and being disconnected for the next 12 days before starting over again! I have been living at home for the past 5 or 6 weeks and between you and me am quite enjoying looking after myself once again. My weight is gradually getting back to normal, I do a 30 minute walk round the block most mornings and have just enjoyed a week away during which time I walked miles of beaches, clambered over countless rocks and climbed up and down many long flights of steps off and on to the beaches. When you consider that it was only about 8 weeks ago that I couldn’t walk for more than 5 minutes without having to sit down and take a breather I reckon I’ve got every right to feel pleased with myself! LOL
Hope all is well with you and that the winter hasn’t been TOO harsh. From what we have seen on our news broadcasts it has been very frightening at times.
So take care and thanks again

LOL love the story ‘behind’ the photo…sorry about the ‘behind’ pun, couldn’t resist :)))
Fabulous capture even if it did make your blood pressure shoot through the roof!
Good morning Sarah. It’s about 2.15 am on a very hot night that is making sleeping rather difficult and in the end I gave in, wandered into the kitchen to put the kettle on (nothing like a cup of tea on a hot night!) and here I am! LOL. Always good to have a visit from you and, despite the horrible pun (!) a joy to read your comment. Thanks a million and you’ve given me something else to chuckle over when I drag myself back to bed again in a few minutes time!
Take care

Brilliant … both image and story Peter. I recall something similar many years ago when we both knowingly wandered onto a Nudie beach just to see what was happening as it was all in the news and relatively new to our world back then. We dressed in hats and dark glasses (and clothes of course) and were wandering towards ‘that end of the beach’ when a fellow overtook us from behind and as he passed he said ’hi Bev, hi Phil" – it was our neighbour but how he recognised us from behind is a mystery … still when we got to our destination there he was with his sunglasses, hat and a belt around his waist that held his walkie talkie … and nothing else. He was the nudist lifeguard and was happily playing beach volley ball … that sight will keep entering our nightmares forever. With our curiousity cured … we quickly left the scene♥
Hi Bev. Good to hear from you as always and very many thanks for the great comment. I well remember the fuss here when Swanbourne was declared a nudist beach and promptly became Perth’s biggest tourist attraction for a while! As far as I know it is STILL operating in that capacity but with the interest in nudism now at rock bottom I don’t think anyone thinks anything of it any more. I was in a somewhat different position on this occasion last week though – I mean to say an elderly man, on his own and with a camera constantly clicking away. Who would have accepted my word I wonder? The only consolation would have been that there wasn’t a single person showing on any of those photos on the memory card! I guess in future I’ll have to take a bit more care when wandering on to a never before visited beach! Would rather spoil the fun though! LOL
Take care

Hi Peter, Very funny I can imagine how red your face would have been, great looking beach though, I’m so happy your feeling better and can walk further now, keep it up (the Walking)!!
Always great to see your pictures,
Mike lol Favs
Thanks a million Mike. My face was red anyway, but from the sun! Now I’m just about to post another pic from that same beach – just before the penny dropped!
Best wishes

That’s a lovely one Peter, makes you want to wander down to it ! Great POV.
Hi Roy and many thanks. I was almost at the bottom of a long flight of steps when I paused to take this. It was the V formed by the tree branches that first caught my eye and the photo was a natural progression from there! LOL
Cheers

It is a lovely beach. Peter … my made my day recounting your story…Hugzzzz xxx ☺♥
LOL. Thanks heaps Evita. It is funny in retrospect but believe me, at the time my main concern was to get out of there pronto! An elderly gent with a camera on a nudist beach is not exactly guaranteed to delight the other occupants!
Hugs

I absolutely do believe you Peter, how COULD you think otherwise?? My goodness, the very thought!!!! To prove it, I took at least 3 microseconds before I clicked on the link in your journal to see what nifty things might be waiting for me. Ahh, old friend, the sand looks lovely, the sea so blue, those puffy white clouds, and nary an inch of skin in sight. Well done!!
LOL!
Jann and I couldn’t be happier for you. Have a great trip to Tassie and that one to Arnhem Land sounds like a real adventure. Way to go!!
Cheers,
George and Jann
You don’t know how good it is to have friends who have so much faith in you. Completely restores MY faith in human nature!! LOL Thanks heaps George and Jann. It will be a while before I visit THAT beach again – certainly not before our spring!
Thanks for the holiday wishes – it will be great to get away for a while.
Take care both and my best wishes
Peter
