The Southern Ocean coast at Lights Beach is a wonderful vantage point by

I was walking along a VERY short section of the famed 1000 km long Bibbulmun Track which, during the time it is close to the coast, is a treasure trove for views such as this. Where I am standing is right beside the sign welcoming us to the William Bay National Park. This photo was taken quite late in the afternoon when the light was magical and is the view west from Lights Beach, near Denmark in the south of Western Australia some 450 or so kms from Perth. Here there is a string of some of the finest beaches you could ever wish for, all contained within a distance of no more than about 10 kms.
After taking this I had a yarn with the guy with the bike (see him standing there?) and then walked down a flight of wooden steps on to a gorgeous section of beach where I had a ball clambering over rocks and taking photo after photo. It was a great afternoon!
Camera was my new Sony Alpha 55V with 16-80 Zeiss lens and nd8 filter attached. I was in aperture priority ( as seems to be mostly the case these days) and was hand holding the camera

Awesome POV, and DOF Peter…so well composed…love the contrasts between land and sky…most interesting narrative as well…Hope all is well with you folks these days…inst fave BTW!!!

  • very many thanks indeed Larry, both for a great comment and also the fave. Goodonyer mate. This was my first holiday on my own in the south of our state (Betty is sadly now in a nursing home) and I was doing all the previously forbidden things (rock climbing etc!)
    All the best

Ah Peter you’ve been wandering again! A beautiful image and story. We both seem to have this “thing” for the coastal areas, and that’s good. There’s nothing as invigorating to old bones as the breath of salt air and a thunder of surf. A nice walloping storm would add some zest,too..lol!
Keep going my friend, I’m trailing right behind you..haha!! Fave, too!

  • Hi George and very many thanks. Great words and a fave to boot – what more could I ask for?? Dead right you’re catching me up fast and we would have had a great time exploring all the little rock pools etc around this area together.
    All the best old mate

You’ve got just about everything perfect in this photo Peter – a magnificent scene.
    Ian

  • Good morning Ian and very many thanks. That part of our coastline is just so beautiful that it doesn’t seem to matter where you point the camera there’s always a good scene for it to feed on.
    Regards

A great image, beautiful scene with good leading lines.
  • Hi Terry and very many thanks. The weather had been decidedly iffy but, as often seems to happen, started to clear with the approach of sunset – and I couldn’t have been in a better place at the time!
    Regards
    Peter

A wonderful and colourful image of Denmark’s beautiful coast line Peter and from the description it sounds as though you were thoroughly enjoying yourself. I hope you will have lots more times like this doing what you love.

  • Thanks so very much Elaine. That coastline is so great that the easiest thing in the world is to get good photos of it.

Like the way you have used the path to lead you in and the clouds are magic. Well taken. John

  • Thanks very much John. It was an ideal time of day and all the elements co-operated fully!

Wow!! Fantastic shot Peter – I guess you were standing on almost the same spot when you took this :))

  • Thanks very much Penny. I came here three times during my 4 day stay and it would have taken a team of wild horses to drag me away! As a matter of interest the snakes were being brought out by the warmer weather on a couple of those afternoons and I saw 3 or 4 black ones that somebody said were Tiger Snakes. One was on the short track leading to the lookout from the car park, another was at the top of the steps leading down to the beach from the car park (that might have been the same one) and a third was just a couple of minutes before I took this photo!
    Take care
    Peter
