Please don’t ask me why this should be called Hellfire Beach because I wouldn’t have a clue! Considering it’s one of the most peaceful and serene beaches I’ve ever walked on all I can say is that someone in the past was having a bad day when they named it!
It’s found in the Cape Le Grande National Park some 60 kms east of Esperance which, in turn, is about 700 kms south east of Perth, Western Australia. It’s hard to believe that is the mighty Southern Ocean out there!
I took this in October 2007 using my Sony R1 in aperture priority – hand held of course.
southern ocean, esperance, recherche archipelago, beaches, cape le grande

what a name. yes you wonder! Kind of lonely. Great photo Peter.
Good evening Hillie and many thanks. I agree it does look lonely but strangely you don’t FEEL lonely when you’re there

Excellent capture Peter! My sort of beach!! PRIVATE!! Not sure about the name though! Cheers and Hope you are indoors today!
Hi Mary. Too right we’re indoors today! Although we did go out for a short stroll to look at the kangaroos on the golf course around 5pm. Thanks for liking this one – one of the hardest tasks I know would be to picl a favourite from all the Esperance – every one of them has a charm and character of it’s own.
Take care

Why do we call red heads Blue???? Maybe it’s the same thing Pete. That sand would send you blind. Great capture Mate.
The fact that it faces south is a big help. It means the sun is seldom bouncing off the beach straight at you. Many thanks old friend.

Beautiful shot ! The sand looks like nobody has ever walked along it and the sky filled in beautiful blue. I can picture myself on a peaceful and relaxing walk here :-)
Thanks very much Fred. Not all that many people DO get to walk on it as it is rather out of the way.
All the best for 2011

I think “Hellfire” must have been the utterence when the namer came upon this beach .. like “Hellfire” is this for real? LOL!!
So beautiful, paradise found and beautifully captured I might add!!
Happy New Year to you & Betty Peter. Hugs, Tai x
Now why didn’t I think of that! LOL Hey, you should have been over here yesterday – there was a wonderful sunset over the Lagoon beach (and we never got down there!) But we will tonight if it’s repeated.
Very many thanks my lovely and a very happy new year to you as well. I hope you are safe right now and not getting flooded – we’ve thought of you a lot.
Love and hugs

Beautiful, Peter! Sure doesn’t look like that around here right now! lol! I have to agree with Tainia’s explanation for the name!
Thanks David. Maybe he said it with an expletive in front of it but that didn’t pass the censor??
All the best old sport

What a beautiful place to behold, though you wouldn’t believe it if you found the name on a map!! Peter great shot as always well done.
Very many thanks old friend. I just read how England’s had it’s coldest weather for over 120 years – poor you. Hope all is well and that 2-11 is a good year for you.
