Rocky islands - another stunning aerial view by

Just think – birds get views like this all the time!
I’m on the seaplane heading back to Broome from the Horizontal Falls in the extreme north west of Western Australia getting on for 3000 kms north of Perth. Note the shadow of our plane at the bottom of the photo.
This was a flight of about an hour and 20 minutes or so in which we flew over several of the 1000 islands that comprise the Buccaneer Archipelago. It was a stunning day and the views were out of this world. My camera was clicking away virtually non stop as was that of each of the other 8 passengers.
I didn’t want to miss anything on this section of the flight so swallowed my pride and put the camera on auto because when you are tightly strapped in to your seat you don’t have a lot of room to be making camera adjustments. Looking at the photos I reckon the camera made a better job of it than I would have done!

wow, these are simply stunning and certainly not bad for “auto-mode”, amazing view and really liking the cloud reflections. Not forgetting the little shadow cast by the plane.

  • Good to see you Andy and very many thanks for the visit and kind words. I reckon you would have been in your element in that part of our state on that day – everything was just right for photography.
    Best wishes

Great shot Peter – you did well to get the reflection of the clouds on the water in the distance!
While the water looks very inviting, our ’chopper pilot (at Mitchell Plateau) told us swimming was out of the question as the water was full of saltie-crocs, white sharks and box jelly-fish!

  • Many thanks Tim and your chopper pilot was dead right – we were told exactly the same. Actually this area is not all that far from the Mitchell plateau and THAT’s a flight I would love to have done! (never satisfied, that’s the trouble!!)
    Regards
    Peter

A great capture Peter, what a lovely view you had! And you’ve captured the cloud reflections so wonderfully. I like the blue colour of the water also a lot. Many regards, Henri.

  • Good morning Henri and many thanks for your kind words. On this flight we were on our way back from an area known as the Horizontal Falls and the pilot flew at not much more than wave top height over all the beautiful islands and coast of the north west of our state.
    Regards
    Peter

    wow, simply stunning!!!

  • Thanks very much yet again Haya and your visits have been wonderful and very much appreciated. This scene is in the far north west of Western Australia, almost at the extreme top of our continent and completely uninhabited.

Wonderful aerial shot………one of these days I will make it to Broome…I hope:)

  • Don’t leave it too long Hans or the crowds will have discovered it! There’s quite a bit about the horizontal falls in Google and that’s really how I got to learn about what was on offer. I was actually at the end of a two week coach tour from Darwin to Broome with Outback Spirit and every day was wonderful!
Many thanks for adding me to your watch list

I’m not a lover of aerial flight but photo opportunities like this are a surefire way to get me up there, superb Peter,
    Regards, Rod.

  • Very kind of you Rod – thanks a million. This flight back to Broome was just fabulous as we flew very low across scores of tiny uninhabited islands and then all the way down the coast to Broome – a trip of about an hour and a half give or take. The weather was perfect and I was on the right side of the plane for photos!
    All the best
    Peter
