Breathtaking aerial view by

There was fabulous scenery galore as we flew at wave top height (well, almost) over some of the 1000 uninhabited islands that comprise the Buccaneer Archipelago in the far north west of Western Australia. We were in a seaplane on our way back from the incredible Horizontal Falls to Broome and part of the deal was a return flight down the coast. I kid you not, my Sony R1 was red hot by the time we landed! LOL
The seaplane was a 9 seater jet prop – noisy but comfortable. At least everyone gets a window seat!
This region has the highest tidal range in the world (along with one bay in Canada) and 15-18 metres tides are the order of the day. Here were are seeing a fast ebbing tide that was very shortly about to change with a big surge.

Looks like you found paradise. A view to die for…

  • Sure did Jayne. One of the reasons I did this flight was that they undertook to fly back over the islands and down the coast at low level and low speed. Incredible. \Take care and I look forward to seeing your photos when you get back

Superb Peter, especiaaly with the planes wing included, otherwise you could have used stilts !

  • Very many thanks Colin. Was difficult to avoid getting the plane’s wing in shot anyway – the windows are quite narrow and you’re strapped in real tight!
