Come on in, the water's fine! by

I think this guy wanted to be tickled under the chin. Either that or he could see the prospects of a tasty meal in front of his eyes!!
We were cruising the fabulous Yellow Waters Billabong at Cooinda, in the Kakadu National Park – Australia’s Northern Territory south of Darwin. There were several more of these creatures just lying around enjoying the warm waters, plus there was a vast assortment of birds that migrate to this area on an annual basis.
Camera was my Sony R1 set to f8 on aperture priority. I cropped the photo slightly just before uploading it.

… after you Peter … not likely! I’m not sure how safe I would feel even in a boat looking at these monsters! Nice capture – looks like you got good weather!

  • Many thanks Bev. We saw quite a few of these in the billabong and it was a lovely, gentle and relaxing cruise among wonderful water lilies, pandanus palms and all the other typical tropical water plants.
    Take care
    Peter

Good shot Peter – you did well to ‘capture’ him (or her) up nice and close. Either you have a good zoom lens, or you’re a braver man than I! :-)
I like the title you’ve given this one too!

  • Hi Tim and very many thanks. My Sony R1 has a 24-120 Carl Zeiss lens which was ideal in many ways for the trip, although there were times, as you will appreciate, that I would have liked a wider angle. We drifted up fairly close to this croc – a female, we were told – seems the males are considerably larger! I’m pretty certain that you got to this place in your travels around the Kimberley. We got out of the Bungles in the nick of time before the ranger closed the road to all traffic. As far as I know it is still closed over a week later! And it was supposed to be the DRY season!!
    regards
    Peter

Not on your life!! LOL Looks like you had the best of times dear Peter. Hugs.x

  • Hello me lovely and how wonderful it is to hear from you again. I do hope you’ve been keeping well in my absence.
This was a big thrill, to actually see these creatures in the wild and in fact we came across many more as the trip progressed.
Tell me what you think of this place. I just don’t have the words to adequately describe it!
Thanks very much for the visit and nice comment.
    Hugs
    Peter

NO thank you!! Great capture, Peter!! :) xx

  • Thanks heaps Anne-Marie. There were several of them about wherever we went in the Territory and the Kimberley but the only time we saw any was when we were on a cruise boat in one of the gorges or whatever.
    Hugs

    PHEW! That’s close enough Peter.

  • LOL – this one actually got fed up with being stared at and photographed – she turned her back on us and swam lazily away!
