This photo of my wife’s Great Grandparents was taken in 1875 in Holbeach, Lincolnshire where they were publicans for many years. Considering that photography was still in it’s infancy, comparatively speaking, the photographers of the day did a darned good job. This one was obviously taken by a professional as it wasn’t until the turn of the century that technology progressed to the stage where the man in the street was able to start producing images of his own. My father, for instance, built his own first camera in the early to mid 1920’s and I have in my possession some of those early photos of his. mostly on glass plates.
