Even golfers stop for a look
The last photo in the series – I promise!! And straight out of the camera.
How they could play golf in those conditions is beyond me, especially as the fire was burning down the side of two of the further fairways. This is directly opposite our house yesterday (Saturday 17 Jan) at about 9.00am.

Golfers are a breed apart Peter, I thought you knew that (I used to be married to one LOL)
I like this shot, it has all the elements of action and interest in it.

We were golfers ourselves until quite recently – in fact I often say I might go out for a hit but never seem to actually get round to doing it! Thanks for commenting on this one – it was about the last one I took. Regards, Peter
Susan King
nice shot Peter. I play golf but I’m not thet dedicated – like you my camera would have taken priority lol
georgieboy98 replied
Thanks Susan. This is the first year that we have not been members of this club – we joined when it opened in 1975! Yesterday the golfers were complaining that the fairways were chock full of kangaroos, which were trying to escape the fire I guess. Peter

This shot is full of action. You can keep shots like this coming as long as you like, Peter! As for the golfers – well, they do chase a little white ball around all day in the heat, don’t they????
georgieboy98 replied
Nothing will prevent them from playing in the Saturday morning competition!! But at least it had cooled down quite considerably. Glad you like this one Jan – very many thanks. Peter
Antanas
Great capture

Many thanks Antanas. It was a scary couple of days we had! Peter

I’ve loved this series Peter – there was mention of it on the news over here so naturally I thought of you and hoped all was well – your photos kept me more informed than the news program. Stay safe.

Thanks Bev – very much. It seems the Yanchep National Park has taken a battering once again – that’s twice in 4 years. I just hope the koalas are all OK. Latest estimates say that close to 10,000 hectares of bush has been burnt out but you know how quickly it regenerates – just imagine all those thousands of blackboy spikes we’ll be seeing next year! Peter
Catherine Veal
on spot reporter now Peter. Glad your both OK though.hugs x

Hi Catherine and many thanks for your interest and concern. Should be OK now as there’s nothing really left to burn. Hugs, Peter.

Great work Peter- I took one of a guy playing in the thickest fog-couldn’t find his buggy so how he though he dould see a ball is beyond me- Golfers for you!! lol x

Hi Pauline. They were even out there playing on Friday afternoon when the fire was at its closest! But what am I saying? I’m a golfer myself- or I WAS up to a few months ago! Peter

Interesting “reporting” Peter :-)

Thanks Jan. I just struck me as a newsworthy scene! Petert

Hi Peter, this is great stuff! Watch out though they may snap you up as a Press Photographer soon:) Don.
georgieboy98 replied
LOL – funny you should say that because I sent this to our local community paper right away (knowing the editor was otherwise engaged! LOL)

Golfers are Crazy! Imagine thinking playing the game is more important than your life:) I’ve even seen glofers out in a snow storm before (and before you ask- they used luminous orange and green balls). LOL. Don.
georgieboy98 replied
I have a similar shot from a previous fire in which a golf cart is just emerging from a cloud of smoke! Now THAT is crazy!! LOL Peter
John Pitman
Amazing shot Peter.
georgieboy98 replied
Thanks John. Was an amazing few days! Peter

Its hard to make a choice Peter, go to the out house, play golf or go for a helicopter ride. cheers.
georgieboy98 replied
I think golf would definitely been out for me that day with all that smoke around. Not sure about the helicopter either as this particular one has been around for quite a few years. So it looks like the outhouse!! LOL Thanks for dropping in and we could have done with you over here the last few days! Regards, Peter

As someone who was a keen golfer all my adult life till a handful of years ago I still find it incredible that they were playing alongside a raging bush fire, they so obviously had a totally different set of priorities from most sane people, again, a great newsworthy image Peter that tells the story of how close that raging fire came to you,
Regards, Rod.

Having seen this same sort of thing during previous local fires I wasn’t really surprised, especially as this was on a Saturday morning and there’s no way they would miss their Saturday competition! But I rather think they would have had several unusual hazards on the other nine!! Best wishes, Peter

Fantastic photo of all of this action and excitement. I definitely relate to the golfers in the cart as I was like that about golf for a long time. Then I started carrying my camera on the golf course along with the clubs and finally the camera became more important than the golf clubs!!!! WIsh I had been there that day with my camera as this is a one of a kind super capture!!!
On a more serious note—-it IS tragic about the fires there and sad to see so many beautiful forests, towns, people, and animals suffering as a result.

Hi Jane and very many thanks for the visit and the very interesting and lovely words. I, too, was a golfer and a member of this particular club for over 30 years (it’s right opposite our house so we didn’t even have to drive anywhere to get on the course!) Bush fires are a fact of life out here in most states and we have come close to being evacuated on more than one occasion. This particularly fire was mid January, started deliberately ( as most of them are it seems) and a very fortunate last minute wind change kept us safe and also prevented too much damage from being done in our local National Park (which has only just recovered from the last fire). The helos always draw from this irrigation lake and I can never resist walking over and photographing the action, usually getting rather wet from venturing too close! LOL Best wishes, Peter
