Hellfire Beach

Hellfire Beach

How on earth this beach came by it’s name I honestly don’t know. Perhaps it CAN get rough. Perhaps it WAS rough the day it was discovered and named! Being on the Southern Ocean and exposed to the strong swells that roll in from the Antarctic that is a likely scenario but we have been here 3 or 4 times and on each occasion “Peaceful Bay” would have been a far more appropriate name! The location is on the shores of Cape Le Grande National Park some 50 kms east of Esperance in the far south east of Western Australia, some 750 kms by road from Perth. I have to say that being here is nothing short of idyllic! Peter

SUPERB shot, dear Peter!! Just lovely! Doesn’t Esperance just have the most stunning coastline and colour? did you go to Twilight Beach and 7 mile Beach (I think?!!) ? The water is just so blue and crystal clear on this coastline. The kids and I climbed to the top of Frenchman’s Peak back in ‘92!! :)

Thanks very much Anne-Marie. This was taken this time last year when Betty’s brother was out from England for a few weeks. We always stay at a B&B overlooking Blue Haven beach and that coastal path is just fantastic. Twilight has long been a favourite of ours and even Prince Charles took a dip there many years ago. Sorry I’ve been quiet this week – I’ve been under the weather for several days but seem to be on the mend now. How’s the new camera? Peter

Sounds lovely – I hope Betty’s brother loved Oz! sorry you’ve been under the weather old chap – glad you are on the mend. I’ve been quite busy too, so not as active as previously!!

I am really enjoying my a200 – still learning heaps and as you can see from recent images, I’m playing around with a bit of editing through Picasa. :) Stay well, OK!

I this this beach is pristine, amazing composition and colour!!!

  • georgieboy98 replied

Thanks very much Patricia. This is one of the very few beaches in the national park that are accessible to conventional drive vehicles. Some of the other beaches that are 4WD only are truly sensational – and I can’t get to them!! Peter

Hi Irene and thanks very much. That area is all so unspoilt being rather off the beaten track. Peter

  • georgieboy98 replied

LOL – you jump in first and tell me what the water’s like! But I warn you it IS straight off the Antarctic! Thanks for the visit, the lovely words and for adding this to your favourites. Hugs, Peter

simply beautiful and cristal clear blue water:)

  • georgieboy98 replied

Very many thanks Els. This is the Southern Ocean coming straight off Antarctica and there is nothing at all to pollute the water before it reaches our southern shores. As a result it is always this colour although the locals tell us it does get considerably rougher!! Peter

Just like Teignmouth, I think not my friend, a little more like a Paradise I’d say, beautifully captured Peter,
    Regards, Rod.

  • georgieboy98 replied

Hi Rod. A similar thought (re Teignmouth) did flit momentarily across my mind! But I managed to dispel it!! Many thanks for visiting and for the nice comment – I actually got my feet wet taking this shot as the tide was deceptive and the water you see here swirled in much further and faster than I was expecting! All the best, Peter

The name is indeed a bit strange. Maybe when they discovered the place they had a barbie which got out of hand and every one got burned. Whatever the name it looks like a wonderful peaceful place. Well taken Peter.
