Cornish fishing village
Any ideas anyone? Could it be Mousehole? I’m sorry to have to admit that it’s so long since I was over there my memory is letting me down

I should know it because we lived in the south west for many years, Anyway I’m hoping somebody will come to the aid of the party!! Thanks for commenting John. Peter

Nice composition

G’day Scott and good to meet you.. Thanks for the comment – I took this about 40 years ago as a slide and it was laying in the box completely forgotten until just a couple of days ago!! Peter

Good shot Peter, and what a great idea to resurrect slides! I’ll have to see what I can do. You’ve inspired me!

Great low tide image Peter, true Cornwall. As for location…....um…......er…....may be Mousehole….....erm…......could be Mevagissy ? Definately looks to be on the south coast…. um ! Not much help am I, sorry mate….
kalaryder, 2 months ago
I thought of Mevagissey, but seemed to remember the harbour entrance a little wider, but then memory of mine is never strong!
Tainia Finlay, 2 months ago
Hello Peter I’m afraid I’m not much help, I can’t remember such a narrow opening to a harbour. I can say with great commitment though that as this was taken 40 years ago a lot will have changed now. A beautiful marker and image in time. Well done mate. Hugs Tai x

Not to sure on this one Peter. I wouldnt say Mousehole, cos of the land in view in the background.
You wouldnt see Newlyn or Penzance like that.
Nice capture though.

Beautiful picture
sorry I have no idea where it is

Hi Elaine and many thanks. I bought a flatbed scanner with transparency adaptor (it will also do prints from negatives) about 8/9 years ago and have used it ever since. Nowadays they are a whole lot cheaper with more brands to choose from. A dedicated slide scanner costs an arm and a leg and there’s not a heck of a lot of difference in the quality of the scan either!! Peter

Thanks Wayne and yeah, I thought of Mevagissey too. So many of them look alike, that’s the trouble. I wondered if the cars parked on the wall might have given someone a clue – also does the tide go right out like this at all those villages? Peter
georgieboy98 in reply to kalaryder’s comment, 2 months ago
I thinki I might have a couple of piccies of Mevagissey somewhere – I’ll look them out and do a comparison. Peter
georgieboy98 in reply to Tainia Finlay’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks Tai. Do you think the opening could be wider than it looks due to the angle at which I took the photo? Wouldn’t be Padstow would it? Hugs, Peter
georgieboy98 in reply to Richard Veal’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks Rich – there’s bound to be photos of all the Cornish fishing villages somewhere on the net so I’ll check ‘em out. I just asked Tainia whether she thought it might be Padstow – what do you reckon? Peter

Many thanks Susan but if you suddenly get a flash of inspiration let me know, won’t you? Ta. Peter

Thanks for the info Peter. I really appreciate it. Am looking to get a new camera in the next week or two and then will take off for a month visiting rellies & friends in NSW. Will look into the other after that. Elaine

love pics like this that make the brain work, this isn’t mevagissey regular visitor and there would be more water in the harbour even at low tide and the headland rules it out as well :-)

Great old shot! I love a mystery… have a look at Shakey’s pic
Richard Veal, 2 months ago
Change of mind. Yes, I say Mousehole, as the coastline you can see, is the Lizard Peninsular.
Forgot about that.
georgieboy98 in reply to Lucan Netley (LDN Photoart)’s comment, 2 months ago
Many thanks Lucan. I have been to Mevagissey a few times back in the dim and distant past but I don’t ever remember taking this sort of photo there. I used to always concentrate on the vast array of vertical masts!! Best wishes, Peter
georgieboy98 in reply to Richard Veal’s comment, 2 months ago
Great Richard and it seems Mousehole is winning the day! I had never thought of the Lizard peninsula being quite so close. It always had to be a place I had visited (somewhat obviously!!) and that did narrow it down somewhat. Thanks for all your help buddy – seems everyone likes a mystery!! Peter.

Thanks James and I think showing us Shakey’s photo again has just about settled the matter. Mousehole it has got to be!! Peter

It’s Mousehole…the Old Coastguard Hotel is in the background, where I stayed on honeymoon, and from where my shot of Mousehole Harbour on the Features section is taken from.
Jonathan Dower, 2 months ago
Yeah, it’s Mousehole. I have a vague recollection of visiting there a long, long time ago and liking the name. Anyway, nice shot.
georgieboy98 in reply to snurfdood’s comment, 2 months ago
Very many thanks and it’s good to see you again. Peter
georgieboy98 in reply to Jonathan Dower’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks Jonathan and it’s well over 40 – nearly 50 years – since I took this shot. Usually I have a pretty good memory where photos are concerned but so many of those Cornish fishing villages are alike I was stumped on this one. Peter

def not padstow,. Could be meva, I am in mevagissey tomorrow so will take a pic from about the same angle and see if we have a match.
snurfdood, 2 months ago
Jaffa..it’s definitely Mousehole..if you look at my pic of the harbour you can see the same house on both pics in the left hand corners :o)
georgieboy98 in reply to jaffa’s comment, 2 months ago
Many thanks. I’ll look forward to see your pics of Mevagissey anyway. Peter

Hello mate, I have just googled Mousehole and it looks the same with the opposing steps def not Mevagissey. Hope this helps.
georgieboy98 in reply to Oliver Monk’s comment, 2 months ago
Very many thanks Oliver and it’s always good to have definite confirmation. As I said earlier I can usually remember scenes very well but 45 years is pushing the boundaries a bit! Best wishes, Peter
