Cape Leeuwin from Skippy Rock

This is the extreme south west corner of Western Australia some 420 kms or so south of Perth. We are looking at the Indian Ocean but just round the corner and in line with the Cape it becomes the Southern Ocean. The lighthouse was opened around 1900.

Cape Leeuwin from Skippy Rock belongs to the following groups:

Australian Landmarks and Icons, Happy Haven, Landscape Photography, UK to Australia and Back and WA Red Bubbles

Awesome image Peter! I have been there too but it wasn’t a beautiful day like this one & none of my captures came close to this, beautifull mate! Hugs, Tai x

Lovely view Peter! I like the two tone colour of the ocean with the white tips and those gorgeous clouds set it off nicely

Beautiful view Mate, the sea has a lot of movement, I guess it can get fairly ‘choppy’ eh !

You’re too kind Tainia but I love it! LOL Thanks mate! I must have taken 500 shots at least of the lighthouse area at least over the years. You can get a better one if you go a hundred yards or so further up the scenic drive but it was very corrugated on this occasion so we didn’t bother. Hugs, Peter

Very many thanks Claire. We had just had two very dull, wet days and this was the morning we were leaving. Wouldn’t you know it, the sun decided to shine!! So we had to come down for one more look at the cape. Peter

Goodonya Wayne – many thanks. Too right it can get rough, indeed it was for the first couple of days we were there (earlier this year) But I was concerned about the salt spray getting into my camera so held off getting too close to the action. But it’s a great area for photography. Peter

What a lovely shot Peter. It makes me want to be sitting at that table enjoying the sun and scenery! The sky and ocean are very nicely balanced and I love that lighthouse out there. Beautiful.
