Cooling Off by George Petrovsky

Currently unavailable for purchase

A hot Summer evening. Much cooler to have a barbecue dinner outside. Lots of mosquito coils burning to keep the pests away. Out with the snags (aka sausages) and the fresh garden salad. Out with some nice bottles of white wine, straight from the fridge. Condensation running down the sides. Back lit by a candle on the table. Which one will be chosen? Care to join in? Red available too. I know…

Sony W630, Auto Intelligent setting, no flash, ISO 2500. Cropped and processed in PaintShop Pro X5.

An old photographer and his dog trying to find what turns a photograph into a worthwhile picture. Perhaps try to take a worthwhile photograph in the first place? The digital darkroom is a creative, fascinating place. If only I could learn to use it and the cameras I have to best effect… I love “mucking around”, as you can see!

Now, you know all my stuff is Copyright If you try and pinch any of it, I’ll jump through your screen and rip your bloody arms off!

They look so inviting, but I’ll have a red thanks George.
This is a beautiful shot and I love the wary look of the chap in the background. :)

  • The look is a cross between: “Which one will I have?” and “There’s that silly old bugger with his camera again!” I had set up the bottles to be back lit – but ended up having a red which I had bought. Goes well with snags and salad! Thanks for the fave too, Maree! :)george

    Even for a non-drinker ~ a very inviting image ….
I love the beautiful light and the warmth here George ~ but what intrigues me the most is the watchful expression in the eyes of the young man.
A very warm and (no doubt) “heart warming” capture!!!

  • G’day, Sharon – glad you like this semi-candid shot. Yes, he was watching me set up the bottles for this shot and wondering what I was up to. The little Sony came out of my top pocket – and, voila! :)george

Pour me one if you will please George.
Great shot. Love the light & the look on the fellows face.

  • G’day Gail – glad you like this! White is sort of OK some times, but I’ll be happy to share a nice bottle of red with you any time! There are always suspicious looks when I reach for my camera… :)george

  • Thanks for the fave, geof – much appreciated! Words were inspired by happy memories of the event… :)george

Hmmmm. The Riesling is not bad. The mate, however, is very sceptical about a good glass of wine. He certainly prefers a pint of guiness. :)

  • Beer, red wine, white wine, beer, more beer, more red wine, whiskey mixers, beer, more red wine are the favourites. He may have a guiness now and then…. I prefer reds but have been known to have a nice cold beer on a hot Summer day. :)george

very special warm light, disregarding the contents… great moment captured, George!

  • Thanks, Nikolay – I had arranged the bottles in front of a pyramid candle for the mood lighting – hence the slightly bemused look! Glad you like the result. :)george
