When the clouds lifted momentarily and the sun came out, I took a drive to the nearby Burragorang Conservation Area. Lookout. Whilst reading the well planned display near the new observation deck, outlining the features and history of the area, I noticed this very large hairy bottomed fly sitting on the glass. His positioning could not have been better, juxtaposed against a photograph of the old guest house. I had no idea that flies could read and that he’d dropped over for a flying visit.
Nikon D80, Sigma 17-70mm OS lens @ 70mm, Program setting, 1/30 sec @ f4.0, ISO 100, Pattern metering, Auto exposure and WB. Cropped and selectively coloured in Photoshop Elements 3. The fly has not been added.
From Holland with compliments my gooooooood friend :-)
Thanks for the flying visit John – glad you like my little friend. Actually, that beastie was bloody huge compared to the normal house fly – I wouldn’t like to be attacked by a swarm of them! :)george
It’s moments like these that I really like. A rare opportunity captured. Most excellent dude. Probably considered more of a fly in guest — with no luggage. Note I said ‘luggage’. I bet it has a lot of ‘baggage’ though, especially with a large hairy butt!
Thanks for the fave Tonny – much appreciated! Yes, this was a real “Aha! Gotcha!” moment whic comes up all too rarely. If you consider the point size on the sign – I’m guessing about 24 or so – it will give you an idea of how big this bugga was! Must try to identify this one, never seen before. :)george
Not only a great shot, but nice processing George! Probably not one they’d like on their brochures tho…..
Thanks Enivea! This will be the fly that flew around the World! Glad you like it and the lucky shot. My next picture shows the display whereupon this fly sat. :)george
