The annual Festival of Steam in Thirlmere, in the Southern Highlands of NSW Australia, featured this interesting vehicle: A genuine 1901 “Locomobile”, made in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in the good ol’ US of A. It was the Style # 2 version.

These cars may make a comeback when we run out of petrol… although the current Design Rules and safety crowd may require a few modifications…

An old photographer and his dog trying to find what turns a photograph into a worthwhile picture. Perhaps try to take a worthwhile photograph in the first place? The digital darkroom is a creative, fascinating place. If only I could learn to use it and the cameras I have to best effect… I love “mucking around”, as you can see!

Now, you know all my stuff is Copyright If you try and pinch any of it, I’ll jump through your screen and rip your bloody arms off!

Very good interesting shot…I wonder how they get up there

  • Glad you like this, Gilberte. The lady had jeans on under her coat – easier to climb up than in a skirt! They probably had to use the frame and grab the seat – a bit awkward! :) george

.. and with guaranteed “no-blow-out” solid rubber tires that last a lifetime!!!!
Why in heavens name did we ever do away with these magnificent machines eh George???
    Wonderful photo!!!

  • G’day, Ken – we may well have to go back to steam power in years to come, take life at a more leisurely pace, get the wind back in our hair – or remnants thereof! I must check out what fuel was used to heat the boiler… :) george

    Fabulous image George….

  • Thanks, Ellanita – the Locomobile was made for taking a nice quiet ride and admiring the scenery. Makes one think about where modern cars are going with self parking, self steering, GPS, DVD players, blue teeth & so on!
