Description:
Evening in the southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. Cormorants and other seabirds gather on rocky islets and settle down for the night. Usually they spread their wings, very briefly, just as they first land, and it looked like they were saying Good-night to the setting sun. I finally managed to catch one with that exact pose.

Hi Leslie, glad you liked it. I had that same feeling of primitive worship when the bird opened his wings. I think they do it to shake out any water from their last dive, but it’s so fast you really have to be lucky to get them fully spread. It worked well with the rather moody sunset. Really appreciate the fave as well!
