Blue Heaven by George Cousins

How else to describe early evening on Upper Waterton Lake, the largest one in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada. The smallest of the string of Rocky Mountain parks, but in many ways the most beautiful and pristine. Along with Glacier Park in Montana, it forms the Glacier-Waterton International Peace Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What a beautiful photo. I hope to visit this area one day. I’ve seen so many wonderful photos from Waterton that I just have to go and see it in person :)

  • You really must do that, Pam. It’s only a short drive from Calgary, even a weekend would allow you to see many of the beauty spots, and you’d be! I wish I was that close, I’d be back there myself, for sure! Thanks for the kind comment!

Wow! Like those blue tones… the boat gives all a sense of scale, love the pattern of the ripples – great job, George!

  • Good morning Regina, many thanks for your kind comments. I waited quite awhile for a boat to come into the scene to get that perspective. The lake was so calm I wasn’t sure if I really wanted the ripples but I’m glad I did.

  • Hi Vickie! You’ve paid me a wonderful compliment my friend, from someone whose work I admire so much, it means a lot! We both have so many more of Waterton, I’m not sure when we’ll run! And we owe it all to you for getting us there, finally!!

  • Good morning Sean, I’ve managed to hit the big Eight Zero! And the nicest present is to get a compliment from people whose work I so much admire and who give Jann and I so much support. Thank you my friend and I hope life is gradually getting better for you. We’re really hoping we can see you again in June!

The first word to come to my mind was Stunning and I knew it was yours right away! I often wish I had visited Canada and the north west when I had the chance several decades ago – these were the scenes I would have been chasing, for sure.
    Wonderful work mate

  • Good morning Peter.. well, today I’m 80 and I’m delighted to be talking to you, and thank you for your wonderful comments. I wish I had discovered the north-west many years before I did, I think my first introduction was in a book I read when I was in school. It took me most of my life to get!Too busy making a living and raising a family, but that had to come first! I’ve been lucky enough to finally get out this way but I wish I had a little more spring to my step..haha! The first cup of coffee does wonders, so we’ll see what the rest of the day brings :)
    Cheers my friend,

This is amazing!! I love the blue tones…you have captured the pristine beauty of this park in this shot George!! Well done my friend!!

  • Hi Blair, thanks so much for your kind comments my friend.. I love all the mountain parks but I think if I wanted to just go away from the world and be a sort of reclusive, it would be in Waterton. Maybe because of wanting to get there for so many years and finally making it. Sometimes things like that are not up to expectations, but Waterton exceeded them. It was worth the long wait :)
