Peggy's Cove-A Different View by

The tiny village of Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada is one of the most visited and photographed places in Canada. Home to about 50 people normally, it’s flooded with visitors every year but most photos show the famous lighthouse and the little harbour with it’s fishing boats. This shot was taken from atop the huge granite outcroppings outside the village, and shows it in relation to the countryside. The exposed granite was scoured by the movement of the glaciers of the last Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago, The grassy hollows were apparently missed by the underside of the glacier and have been able to gradually fill in and sustain grass and wildflowers.

Peggys Cove has been declared a preservation area to protect its rugged beauty. The Peggys Cove Commission Act, passed in 1962, prohibits development in and around the surrounding village and restricts development within Peggys Cove

Fantastic perspective George…….looks great and wonderful writing too.

  • Hi Sean, glad you liked it. I thought a different view might be interesting. You have to hike a bit to get this shot but I’ve tramped all over the area so I have quite a few shots that are out of the normal area.
    Cheers!

this scene reminds me of the day I first saw Peggy’s Cove. We came over a hill if I remember and saw a scene similar to this and said to myself, is this it?
I just loved it there. This is awesome George

  • Hi Vickie..if you came down the road that borders St. Margaret’s Bay, you’d see something similar. To get this shot, you have to do quite a hike over the boulder fields and down towards the ocean. This was almost 5 years ago, not sure I’d do the hike now..lol! But I agree totally with your love of the place. I was in Halifax on 9/11 and over the next few days I took a number of stranded aircrew out there. They were bunked at the same motel and it gave them a bit of a break from their problems.

THis certainly is a different view, George, and one I haven’t seen before. It’s nice to see the “other side” of the village. What a lovely spot!

  • Thanks Mike, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any shots from that angle myself..most people never get beyond the Cove itself. It’s not really an easy hike along the shore but you do get some great ocean shots on a wild day. this was one of the nice calm ones..lol!
