Artist's Description

The tall ship Picton Castle, registered in the Cook Islands, in the South Pacific,is owned and operated by the Windward Isles Sailing Ship Company, Ltd. Her home port is Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her purpose is deep-ocean sail training and long-distance education.
She is a completely refitted barque,179 feet overall, with riveted steel hull, clear oiled-pine decks, steel masts, and wooden and steel yards. In addition to 12,450 square feet of canvas sail, she has a 690 hp diesel engine for occasions when sailing is not feasible. Her on-deck galley has an 1893 cook stove ,the same as was used on commercial sailing ships 100 years ago.

Taken in July 2007 during the Tall Ships Festival at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
