Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada is world famous for it’s natural beauty. One of the highlights is Lake Maligne and the surrounding Rocky Mountains, as well as Spirit Island, the tiny islet at the end of the lake. The turquoise waters of the lake are caused by glacier melt, and to try to get a different perspective for a photo is almost impossible. But by scrambling up the side of a small bluff and through the woods, I tried.

Oh so gorgeous George. Just look at that color! A beautiful shot for sure.Hope your entering this in the Challenge. :>)) Leslie
Many thanks Leslie, glad you liked it! Do you mean the National Parks challenge? If so, I already entered Castle in The Clouds in that one. It’s a real flip of the coin, isn’t it?? LOL!
Simply beautiful picture, George! Listen, help me out if you would. I posted a picture this afternoon that I took in 1979 that I titled ‘Moraine Lake’. Having seen your picture I really think it’s Maligne Lake and I’ve titled it incorrectly. What do you think?
Many thanks David! I think your photo is Medicine Lake, which is about 2/3 of the way from Jasper Town to Lake Maligne. Jann and I both took photos of it but as usual, she took many more than I did. I’ve been studying all of hers and I’m 95% sure that’s what you have. The lake is fed from underground springs which gradually dry up as the summer comes on, until it almost disappears. Hence the Indians called it “Medicine”. That shoreline on the left is the same as what we saw in Sept. when the lake was very low.
I am sure your’s is not Moraine or Maligne, the mountains are too low, and I’ve never seen that perspective. But Medicine is a beautiful area and so is the pic!

I should have told you where it was, shouldn’t I!
geeez George what you won’t do for a fabulous photo! LOL
This is gorgeous. I never have been to Spirit Island, the weather has never been right for the boat tour. It was in the plans in July, but the sky just wasn’t right. Well done!
haha! Well I don’t think I’ll be doing it much longer lol! I must have been out of my mind! They only give about 20 minutes on shore and we left the others and climbed up through the bush to get some higher views. It was worth it, but hard work:)))

take the next boat back, lol…….was worth the hike for sure
I don’t think they let you do that. You’d be stranded there for about 2 to 3 hours so I imagine there are rules because of safety concerns. Good idea if you could do it.

Hi, George, thank you so much for the information. I’ve made changes to rename it. I guess I should have spent a little more time labelling my damn slides. Now I have to remember to label my computer files. Nothing changes! LOL. Thanks again, George!
You’re welcome David, I had a lot of fun when I decided to digitize all my slides back in 2004, some of them going back to 1953..lol! Luckily I did label most of them as soon as I took them, but still….lol!
