Introducing leggings. Step into a world of stunning designs.

Despite logging operations in the rain forest all around it, a small grove of old-growth trees has been preserved a short distance outside Port Renfrew, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. This one is Canada’s largest Sitka Spruce tree, based on mass, with a circumference of 11.6 metres (38 feet) and a height of 62.5 metres (205 feet). The protective fence is to guard against any damage to the root system.

    Hi Jann!
Tall eh. I hope to see these beauties again one day. What a beautiful shot George. With Jann standing there it really does show how big compared to a person these trees really are.

  • Hi Vickie..yes this is a wonderful tree, but as usual, hard to get a good perspective, especially height. No problem getting Jann to help, she’s crazy about trees. The road through the back country is much improved now, so getting there is less hazardous than a few years ago:)

Wow, George, that is some tree!

  • Hi Andrew..yes it really is! Thanks to a lot of nature lovers/conservationalists the grove was spared from logging and left for the rest of us to pause and gaze in wonder. That may sound a bit poetic, but you can’t stand there and look at it without feeling that way!

    That’s some tree, George! B I G!

  • Hi David..I heard about this one a couple of years ago but the road was “passable with great caution” so we waited until we heard it had been improved somewhat. A marvelous place to see and just sit awhile and admire this old fellow.

Hi Sean, so good to hear from you again..hope things are getting better for you. Glad you liked the tree, it’s quite a wonderful old thing, especially when you’re standing there and thinking about how the world has changed since it was a sapling!
