Wandering around the area of south-west Alberta, Canada, where the prairies meet the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. We found several of these old abandoned homesteads from many years past. The weather-beaten trees, lowering clouds and the mountains looming in the distance all combined to give a rather sad wistful feeling, making us wonder what stories the old home could tell.

this is lovely George, there is still life there in the fresh new flowers of the spring season; I love these sights too and wonder at the life the old home knows in those walls

  • Hi Vickie, we saw quite a few of these old places back along Highway 5 and on a couple of side roads. Wish there had been someone to ask about the past history.

You know George, those home-steaders are looking down from the heavens. They probably, like the rest of us … lived as much of their dream as they could. Those that went before us, forged the way for many.
    Barb

  • You’re so right Barbara. Though I grew up in a small town, the houses were much the same, but I think we had more happy moments than we would today, and with a lot less stress:)

Beautiful capture, George! Bit it is sad about these old homesteads. As your title says: “Somebody’s Dream”.

  • Thanks Mike..think if I was younger I’d be tempted to look into buying one of those old places, what a vacation getaway it would make!

A long sad story in this beautiful image George. Rich complex composition where I never take my eye off the frame. Lovely.

  • Thanks kindly Terrill, and I’m very glad you liked it so much!

This is a great capture George!! Very nicely composed! The distance creates a sense of distance from the past! Beautifully framed with the old fence and tree! Lots of history here!!

  • Good morning Blair, and many thanks. I loved those old places we found and especially with the wonderful scenery all around. It must have been beautiful to have lived there, though I imagine life was a bit hard. But then, when isn’t it at many times? Cheers my friend, George
