On the south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada, there are many beautiful beaches, but Crescent Beach is outstanding. It’s a 2 km long, 40 to 65 m wide crescent-shaped beach, with white sand, close to the community of LaHave and the town of Lunenburg.Sand dunes, varying in height from 2 m in the west to 6.8 m at the east end, separate the Atlantic Ocean side from Dublin Bay. A large wooden fence has existed between the beach and dunes since the 1930s.
This view is looking north-east, on a very hot day in July, 2010. Yes, there were people on the beach, but it’s so big you have to look hard to find them! You can even see a car or two, which is permitted on this beach, though it’s a very unusual thing in Nova Scotia.

Nice one George. I looked at it full size to get the best out of it and it’s quite amazing what you can spot. I love the positioning of the foreground rocks, too. Very pleasing photo mate.

  • Hi Peter, we’d been trying to get to Crescent for some years and finally managed to do it. I hope we’ll get back again next year and stay a day or two in the area. So many little places to explore:)
