The Pubnico Point windpower farm is located about 30 Km. south of Yarmouth, on the southern end of Nova Scotia, Canada.
Consisting of 17 turbines, they are able to generate over 100,000,000 KWh annually, enough to satisfy the energy needs of 13,000 homes, which in turn is equal to reducing approximately 90,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions (greenhouse gases) per year.
Being on a fairly flat point of land backed by the sweep of the Atlantic Ocean, and in the path of strong prevailing winds, the project is ideally suited to contribute to the power needs of the Province, which has little hydro-electric power and largely relies on coal and oil-powered generation.
This evening in Late July we were able to see first-hand how turbines are able to take full advantage to the storm winds off the ocean.
